Description
Commercial eye-tracking systems for communication cost as much as a used car and are often tied to a single piece of software. Sguardo combines a self-built infrared bar with an open tracker, at an accuracy suited to communication grids of 6 to 30 cells: it is not meant for precision drawing, it is meant for talking.
Calibration with 5 or 9 points takes under a minute and is saved per person, so it need not be repeated at every start-up. Selection can be made by dwell, with progressive visual feedback, or with an external switch — often preferable, because it markedly reduces unintended selections while exploring the screen.
Image processing happens entirely locally and no frame is ever stored or transmitted.
